Welcome to Team Meier!

Hello all!

Welcome to Team Meier! I hope all of you have enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to the start of the school year in just a couple weeks! I am so excited to welcome your child to 2nd grade and look forward to meeting all of you soon!

Here are a few quick things to share with you about the start of our school year, plus a few notes about myself to help you get to know me a little better.

  • Meet Your Teacher: This event will be held the morning of Monday, August 7, from 9-12:00pm. You may sign up for a time slot online by Tuesday, August 1st. Click here to login. At this event, your child will bring in their school supplies, label them with certain labels I have already created, and place them in the correct locations around the classroom. Beginning of school year prep, done! ;) They will also get a chance to meet and talk with me, and explore their classroom a bit. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there!

  • Assessment Dates: School will not be held on Thursday, 8/17 and Friday, 8/18. During these days, teachers will be meeting with each student for one hour to evaluate their reading and math levels. (Make sure to get those 20-30 reading minutes in each day during the rest of the summer. It makes a BIG difference!) You may sign up online by Tuesday, August 1st, here: Online Express Check In  Click here to login.

  • Parent Info Night: On Wednesday, 8/16, I will be hosting an "Information Night" for my parents in our classroom. There will be two 30 minutes sessions offered, 6:00pm and 6:30pm, which will each be purposefully prepared with useful information about our classroom, routines, homework, grades, volunteer opportunities, behavior expectations, etc. I highly encourage ALL families to send at least one family representative to one of these sessions.

  • School Folder: Starting on the first day of school, your child will bring a RED TAKE-HOME FOLDER home with them. Please have a parent/legal guardian SIGN THIS FOLDER EACH NIGHT. This folder will be a precious piece of information for you. It will hold our monthly event calendar, including the week’s specials schedule and library dates, homework, a monthly spelling word list, behavior notes and finished work. Set your minds now for using and signing this folder each night! ;)

  • Water Bottles and Snacks - I allow each child to keep a water bottle on their desk each day. Unfortunately, because of ants, we are only allowed to have water and no other liquids. (Nothing flavored; juice, gatorade, flavoring drops, etc.) We also have a morning snack each morning. Please supply your child with a healthy snack they may bring in and eat. Great ideas include crackers, fruit, veggies, yogurt, etc. We do not allow cookies or any sugary treats for a snack, as this makes writing time (that directly follows snack time) very interesting! ;)
*Your child is welcome to bring a 2nd snack in to eat toward the end of the school day, but this is not required.

  • About Mrs. Meier: Last but not least, a little about myself and my family! I am a Texas born & raised southern sweetheart that loves early childhood education and has a passion in helping little minds think deeply and achieve big things! I graduated from the great Texas Christian University (Go Horned Frogs!) and I am looking forward to starting my 10th year of teaching. I love to have my students work as a team in our classroom, and will often refer to our group as “Team Meier” throughout the school year. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing the harp (LaurenMHarp.com) and getting outside in this beautiful state of Colorado as much as possible. My husband, Steven, is an orthodontics resident here at the University of Colorado and is about to start his 3rd (and final) year of residency. (It's been a long road!) We have three daughters, Gabi (9 years) and identical twins Grace & Kate (6 years) who currently attend Gold Rush. We are all excited about this upcoming school year!

Please let me know if I can be of any help answering questions you may have about the beginning of the school year, before we see “y’all” at Meet-the-Teacher on Monday, 8/7!

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer,
Lauren Meier

We know that your child is eager to know who his/her new classroom teacher will be!  Starting July 18th you can click here to access parent portal.  You will be able to view your child’s teacher by selecting your student and clicking on the schedule tab. You can look forward to receiving a welcome letter from your child’s teacher via email by the end of the month.
Monday, August 7th - Meet Your Teacher
We believe that it is essential for students to have the opportunity to meet their teacher and visit their classroom prior to the first day of school.  Families are welcome to visit their classroom on Friday, August 5, and drop off school supplies.  We want to ensure that families are able to spend time with the teacher in a small group setting so we ask that you sign up for one of the times shown below by clicking here for our online scheduler.  The online scheduler will be available between July 18th to August 1st  and the password is digger.  Each time slot is reserved for a maximum of six students.  The sign up is first come first serve, so please sign up as soon as possible if you have a preferred time or wish to align siblings’ times.  If you ordered an Edukit, it will be delivered to your child’s classroom.  Click here for a map of teachers’ classrooms.
Sign Up For One of The Following Times on Friday, August 5th
9:30-9:55

Thursday, August 10th -  First Full Day of School
The first full day of school for students in grades K-5 is Monday, August 8th.  Students will meet their teachers on the front blacktop on the first day of school for an opening flag ceremony.  Each teacher will have a sign with her name on it.  On the second day of school students will enter the building through the front door on their own between 8:20-8:30 and walk directly to their classrooms.  Teachers and older students will be available to assist younger students.  This rolling start will ensure a smoother, safer start to the day.  Parents of preschool students will need to walk their children into the building using the west entrance and sign their child in.  School will be in session from 8:30AM-3:30PM next year.

Wednesday, August 16th – Back to School Night for Parents Only
Classroom teachers will provide parents with an overview of the school year on Wednesday, August 16th, during the following two Back to School Night sessions: 6:00-6:30PM & 6:35-7:05 PM.  We hope you will join us for these informative sessions.
Thursday, August 17th or Friday, August 18st – 1 Assessment Hour
In an attempt to gain more targeted information regarding your child’s academic strengths and needs, each child will come to school for one hour only on either August 17th or August 18st to complete reading and math assessments.  Having students complete assessments with their teacher at the end of the second week of school allows students to adjust to classroom practices and procedures.  The assessments administered will allow educators to alter their instruction to meet your child’s individual needs and learning style.
Click here for the online conference scheduler between July 18th – August 1st to select your assessment day and time.  The password again is digger.  Because we value the information we obtain on these days, it is mandatory that all children complete their assessments on either August 18th or August 19th.  Please bring your child to the front vestibule and teachers will escort him/her to his/her testing location.  Students will conclude their assessment day in the gym where your child take his/her school picture.  Our Before and After School Enrichment program (B.A.S.E.) will be available on both August 17th and 18th.  Please contact B.A.S.E. as soon as possible as spaces are limited.
We look forward to seeing your family in August!  Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!
Kindly,
Jennifer Brown
